The current model bayonet type is more expensive and can’t be found at your local hardware store like the old ones still can. I would’ve even preferred that you left the old screw base (E10) light bulbs alone. What worked in the 70’s, still works today. Please don’t ever change how you make these irons. I don’t really need a third Iso-Tip, but you can’t have too much of a good thing and they do make a colorful set. Now I’m rebuilding an older red colored 7800 to see if the “60” minute charge time is of any value to me. Now it works just as well as the new 7700, even if it doesn’t look as good. After years of disuse, I needed to change the battery and the bulb and I’ve recently retrofitted the charger to operate from a 5 volt USB port (not that the original transformer didn’t work just fine). ![]() I think it was around the time that Wahl Clipper first introduced the cordless soldering iron in the early 70’s. My 1st cordless was (and is) an orange colored Model S.I. I recently bought a 7700 because I wanted to have 2 cordless irons ready to go when I have a lengthy soldering project.
